Again it was a miserable night weather wise, but it did nothing to dampen our spirits in a game we felt we should win. The warm up was very promising with all of us knocking goals in from every angle and generally looking very professional, even the fountain of football knowledge Chad was complimentary about us! Then, disaster; Adam’s nemesis Petch (insert insult) who had cunningly fooled me with the old “look, a Badger!” Trick a couple of weeks ago turned up to play for his mate’s team…. From that moment our confidence was shaken.
Kick off we started brightly attacking them and worrying the centre backs making sure we pinned all their players back in there own half when they had a quick break and caught us on the hop to score there first goal down Bobs injured left side while Bob could only stick his leg out in the hope that he would get a touch. At 1 – 0 down we still pressed and pushed up the pitch again frustrating a pegging them back so much so they started to foul us off the ball though the ref seemed to make some strange decisions in their favour concerning corners and being over head height. (This ref having the amazing ability to hear the sound the ball makes when hitting different players)
We went 1-1 with them before half time with a thunderous strike by Ben. H, who spent the game running back and forth like a mad man covering the defence and supporting the attacks when we went forward. After the break it seemed that the fight had gone out of them with us having all the possession and knocking it around their penalty area and winning corner after corner as well as free kicks from their dirty fouling. Sadly we couldn’t convert any of our chances Paul had a dig which missed the top right corner by a foot (ish) and Adam burst through from deep and slammed a shot towards goal narrowly missing after the defence refused to mark him!
Again the opposition caught us on the hop and streamed towards our goal only to be denied buy a hefty and awesome challenge by Chris who barged a fatty to the ground! Adam was penalised for slide tackling beautifully on the edge of our penalty area only to be told that sliding was not allowed. They didn’t manage to convert from the kick either woo hoo!
As the second half wore on our legs got more and more tired and we began to make silly mistakes and loose concentration they went 2 goals up and put the game to bed, Petch (add insult) being a scorer.
The game ended a disappointing loss to a game we thought we should have got a result from.
Things to work on will be our passing or rather making the right decision. I don’t mean to single out Neil I’m sure he wasn’t the only one but during the 1st part of the 2nd half we were on the penalty area and Neil could have pulled it back to me but instead tried to beat the man in front of him when a simple one two may have set something up. I don’t want to make Neil feel bad because otherwise it was another strong performance from him but it’s these mistakes that cost us. We also MUST defend as a team covering all the opposition and not leaving our defence isolated and overrun. If we can work on these for next week we could be in with a chance.
Gents good game we are not playing badly we’re just not having any luck at the moment. Keep up your good work and the win will come I know it,
