FC Skeletor 3-0 Real Diggler

Well done guys! Yeah we lost 3-0 but still the best Diggler performance and most enjoyable game, I think you will all agree. We held the mighty Skeletor for 17 1/2 minutes and possibly deserved to have our noses in front at half time. We defended as a team and had a few decent chances on the break with Adam, James & Neil all linking up well. We fell asleep at the start of the second half conceding immediately after the break. After that we pressed well, pushing Skeletor back & having a really good go at them, unfortunately we couldn't get the break we needed & ended up conceding 2 more goals. The scoreline flattered the opponents who, in our first game, thrashed us 8-1.

Bob - some great saves and some really well picked passes to set off our counter attacks.
Ben H - went at them hard with some good challenges, covered a lot of ground and went forward with purpose when required.
James - great pace worried the defence on numerous occasions, was unlucky not to score, covered in defence well when called upon.
Adam - I think we've found the position for you dude, some great challenges and passes and some good work going forward.
Neil - Our star forward's farewell performance was almost commemorated with a goal, you worked hard & were unlucky not to get the breakthrough, we'll miss you dude.
Paul - A lot was asked of you but you put in the leg work, getting back when needed and putting in some good challenges. Also good going forward.
Ed - Some solid challenges showing those Skeletorians who's boss, worked well in defence and picked out some good passes for the break.

Have a good Christmas & New Year chaps, lets carry forward this momentum, if we do I think we can get off the bottom of the league!

FC Skeletor Vs Real Diggler 9:30pm

Calling all Digglers, due to Bob's absence I will be stepping into his rather large boots for this, our second game against the mighty Skeletor; I felt we were really unlucky not to get anything out of the game last week as it was our best performance to date. Because of this improved performance I am not going to change too much, I am forced into a couple of changes due to the aforementioned missing Bob who is at Fratton Park hoping Pompey can restore some pride after a disappointing spell in Europe, and Weasel who is also missing for this one. So without any further ado here is this weeks starting line-up:

GK - Chris
DF - Ben H
DF - Ben F
MF - Adam
MF - James
CF - Neil

Substitutes:
Paul
Ed
Keir

I'm going to stick Chris in goal for this one as he impressed when he was last between the sticks, let me know if you need gloves so I can hopefully arrange to borrow Bob's. The defensive partnership of Mr Harris & myself worked well last week so I'm not going to mess with that. Adam, I want you dogging the midfield, let's not kid ourselves we are going to be under the cosh in this one so I need you playing like a third defender (please go with me on this one guys), put in some crunching tackles & try to feed James & Neil when possible. James, because of the heavily defensive tactics I'm going for I need you to work as the attacking midfielder getting at them on the counter-attack, look for the space & we will try to feed you. Neil, this is going to be a tough game, I foresee us spending a lot of time defending so your role is key, when you get a chance hammer it! Unless James is right up there with you in which case use your judgement.

Substitutes
I will judge the situation on the night depending on who turns up. Provisionally Paul is a replacement for Neil, Ed for Adam & Keir for myself but we'll see how everyone is fairing on the night.

Ok guys lets meet at 9:15 so I can talk to you in more depth about your positions, I do believe we can frustrate Skeletor if we keep our discipline.

Go balls deep!!!

Real Diggler 0 - 1 Red Sox

Well I have very mixed feelings about the game. We did not deserve to lose this game and only conceded after a mix up at the back but apart from that it was a very encouraging performance.
The formation differed slightly as we ended up with both Ben's playing deep and bringing the ball up with them. Good understanding between the 2 of you so that there was always at least one person back to defend. As both of you have been playing further forward this was very impressive to see.
Ben F constantly monitoring the runs of the opposition and bossing things to cover, and the crunching tackles of Ben H which upset a few of the old timers but hey, what you gonna do.
With Ben F playing further back we then ended up with a front 3. Weasel pulling left and James pulling right to support the jellyfish. Some of the link up play between the 3 was very impressive smooth passes and helping each other out.
Overall the first half was a huge success and i felt going in at 0-0 gave us a huge chance of getting something out of the game especially as i think i only had 2 or 3 saves to make and their keeper was easily the busier of the 2 of us.
After half time though we were caught short at the back as they got break away down the middle and left their player one on one with me. I attempted to narrow the angle but he casually stroked the ball past me. A minor set back as we were still the better team in my opinion.
We seemed to lose our way a little bit after that and were not taking the chances or making the wrong choices in attack. One example is when we had a 3 on 1 with James and Weasel offering support to Neil but he chose to take it alone. Im not trying to single people out because I had said to take a shot if you had the option but just awareness of other people is something we have to work on as this wasnt a one off.
But overall a very impressive performance that we can build on for next week and then the second half of the season. I wont be there next week and neither will Weasel but I shall still be posting a team.
Good performance guys, did ourselves proud.
Go Balls Deep.

Real Diggler vs The Red Sox 7:35

Ok guys, kick off is 7:35 so i want you all there for 7:15 just so we can have a warm up.
Bit short on numbers this week. Adam and Paul are ruled out. As far as im aware this is all we are missing.
So the line up will be

Bob
Ben H
James Ben F
Neil Weasel

Trying something a bit different by having Ben H sitting just in front of me. He will be there to get the ball and dish it out accordingly. James and Ben F look to make space for him. Dragging people out of position so Ben can always bring it up himself if needed.
Weasel, look to drift out left for the ball and then cut back in. Dont be scared to shoot. I want you and James using your pace against them. they arent the youngest of guys so make them run around a bit.
Neil just hold your position and give options to weasel and the midfield 2. Take on the heskey role again. Hold it up and look for the support. If you see a gap then just have a go.
I have no idea who will make it as subs so i will talk to them individually tomorrow.
Its a patched up side but still strong enough to get us the win.
Go Balls Deep

W.A.F UTD vs Real Diggler

Right guys, kick off is at 8.50 tomorrow. So its quite a late one. Lets aim to get there for 8.30 so we can warm and get prepared.
W.A.F are second but they have lost twice so they are beatable. We have everyone back this week apart form Kier who still has his knee problem.
The line up is
Bob
Adam Chris
Weasel James
Ben F

Weasel and James will just be floating and searching for the ball. The two of you should be looking to make space for the other at all times. Use your pace to drag defenders out of position and look to feed Ben.
Ben just lead the line, hold the ball up and dish it out when needed. All 3 of you, dont be scared to have a shot. Could always get a deflection aswell.
Chris and Adam, watch the runners down the side, ill try and clear up anything down the middle aswell. Chris try and get yourself forward as often as possible to support the front 3 and give them other options. Adam just do what you do best, battle for the ball.
When i have the ball, I will always be looking for a quick release so move for it as much as possible. If there are no options ill bring it out myself giving us the extra man. Lets use it.
We have a good chance here boys, Go Balls Deep

Bob
